Summer and Vitamin D

Saturday June 28, 2008
Several recent studies have shown that low levels of vitamin D may have an impact on chronic musculoskeletal pain. Vitamin D is a vitamin that is produced when ultraviolet rays from sunlight strike the skin. Since it's summer anyway, use this to your benefit. Try to get 5-15 minutes of sun exposure daily.

Would really appreciate looking at the studies that were done or at least knowing what journals they were published in. My psychiatist recommended I get 1 hour of sunlight per day for my chronic pain and depression. Also, any mention anywhere if Vitamin D supplements produce the same results for those days when us chronically depressed people just cannot get outdoors?

It is preferable to get the vitamin D through sunlight, but using supplements is a helpful alternative. Also, for those with depression, light boxes can be used if you cannot get outside. These boxes are often used for seasonal depression.
