New Guidelines for Back Pain Treatment

From Erica Jacques, About.com GuideMay 15, 2009

The American Pain Society has released new practice guidelines for the treatment of back pain. Some of the key findings of their study included the importance of diagnostic tests, interdisciplinary therapy and collaboration both among the medical treatment team and between the individual and his doctor.

Is this shocking news? Not really. In fact, I have believed for a long time that collaboration with your doctor is the best way to manage your pain condition. But I have to say, it's nice to see it printed in a journal. Also, it is great to see that collaboration with the rest of the treatment team is considered so important in managing chronic back pain. A pain management team includes physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, nutritionists and many more. With that much knowledge looking out for you, how could you not be getting the best care?

If you suffer from back pain and have not been to see your doctor recently, now might be the time to go. Ask your doctor about his practice guidelines for treating chronic back pain. Better yet, print up the article and bring it to him.
