Definition: Neurons are cells that process and relay information. They exist in the brain, spinal cord (central nervous system), and other parts of the body (peripheral nervous system). Neurons have a cell body (soma), an axon, and endings (terminal buttons) loaded with receptors for neurotransmitters such as dopamine.
We feel pain when sensory neurons called nociceptors send pain signals to the brain.
